TUFPADS® Track Pads Work Well For Rental Applications
Installing TUFPADS® track pads on a rental fleet makes a lot of sense because these track pads allow heavy steel track machines to 'walk' over surfaces that certainly would be damaged by bare steel tracks. Excavators that have only bare steel track shoes can only work in dirt. Now rental customers can use leased crawler trackhoes, excavators and other track vehicles while working inside on floors or outdoors on streets, grass or curbs without ever damaging the working surface.
BLS Enterprises, Inc. maker of TUFPADS® track pads, is an Associate Member of the American Rental Association. BLS provides premium polyurethane TUFPADS® track pads and polyurethane BLS POLY-MG® rubber HQRPADSTM track pads for all track vehicles in the construction industry. These street pads are used to protect the surface that track vehicles walk over and provide better traction on hard surfaces than bare steel tracks. The polyurethane TUFPADS® track pads also last 2 to 4 times longer than conventional rubber track pads. In addition to offering surface protection, traction and durability, they are economical and recyclable and are used in many applications, on machines ranging from asphalt milling machines and asphalt or concrete pavers to track backhoes and excavators.
It is easy to see that having the capability to go virtually anywhere with a track machine can enable rental companies to double their track vehicle rentals.
Rental Companies Benefit from Removable Track Pads
Rental companies can now make their track machines much more versatile and attractive to rental customers by installing a set of rubber Artliner-BLS easy-on, easy-off track pads. These pads allow the rental company to offer track vehicles to its customers either with the Artliner-BLS track pads attached to the steel track, to work on any surface requiring protection, or without the pads, with steel tracks, to work in dirt or any other medium that doesn't require protection.
Many sizes available
Today, several years after their introduction, the easy-on, easy-off, rubber Artliner-BLS track pads are becoming a much sought after alternative for the machine owner who believes that he will be needing protective track pads only for limited durations. The pads are now available in two installation formats for a large variety of machines. The rubber Artliner-BLS track pads are now available for quick shipment for many popular machines using 12-inch (300mm), 16-inch (400mm), 18-inch (450mm), 20-inch (500mm), and 24-inch (600mm) wide track shoes. Also, 28-inch (700mm) and 32-inch (800mm) pads are also available upon request.
Two types of Artliner-BLS track pads
Rubber Artliner-BLS Clip-on Track Pads with Bolts are attached directly to the steel grouser shoes either by a bolt-on bracket at each end or by a slip-over yoke at one end and a bolt-on bracket at the other.
The second type of removable rubber track pad is the Artliner-BLS Bolt-on Track Pad. This type of pad is attached to the steel grousers by having the threaded studs, which project from the back of the pad, bolted through pre-drilled holes in the grouser plate. Many of the Asian manufactured machines already have these holes pre-drilled by the manufacturer, or the holes can always be drilled or burned into the steel shoes later.
In a recent interview, BLS spoke to one of its dealers of long standing, regarding the purchase of some of the first rubber Artliner-BLS removable track pads that BLS sold two years ago. The dealer had spoken to his customer who had the rubber Artliner-BLS bolt-on track pads installed in September of 1998 on his (then) new Komatsu PC60-7 excavator.
The customer uses the machine with the rubber Artliner-BLS track pads to walk from location to location in the construction of residential homes. He had originally only expected the rubber pads to last about two years before needing replacement, but now after two years of use, he told the dealer that the pads look so good that he thinks he will be able to get another two years or more out of them.
TUFPADS® Used on Rental Machines
Polyurethane TUFPADS® track pads have many applications, and even though a large percentage of our customers are in the asphalt paving or milling business, people in other lines of work are coming to appreciate the TUFPADS® solution to their own, unique set of problems. Rental dealers in particular can benefit handsomely by installing TUFPADS® on machines in their rental fleet. BLS estimates that, in many cases, profits from rental machines can be doubled by the use of these protective pads.
TUFPADS® came through
BLS recently received a letter from Andy Solomon, Vice-President of Sales for Sabre International, Inc. of Tulsa, Oklahoma. In his letter, Andy said, “I have enclosed a photo of a pipelayer [a Caterpillar 561H] from our rental fleet. This machine had new TUFPADS® track pads installed more than a year ago. It has been working nearly non-stop on various jobs with a number of different contractors. As you can see, the pads are still in good shape – able to work at least another year. We also have a second machine with a set of TUFPADS® track pads installed more than two years ago. That machine will be able to continue through the end of this season and maybe even the next. I wanted to pass on our appreciation for the quality we have received in the TUFPADS® track pads. We have been able to send a couple of machines out to different parts of the country and not have to worry about replacing pads due to premature wear or product failure. Our customers needed a way to complete their jobs on paved surfaces and the TUFPADS® product came through.”
BLS Enterprises, Inc. now makes stabilizer pads for the John Deere 310, 410, 510 and Case 580, 590 & 595 rubber-tire backhoes in three different materials: premium polyurethane used in TUFPADS® track pads, BLS POLY-MG® polyurethane, and high-quality HQRPADSTM rubber.
