Success Stories

TUFPADS®

"We have used the bolt-on TUFPADS track pads on our eight Wirtgen milling machines for years. We are very happy with how long they wear -- we get about 1,200 hours on the BLUE standard pads per set here in the Colorado area. Since the bolt-on pads are so much easier to change than the one-piece pads, it only takes about six or seven hours for one guy to replace pads on the whole machine. When I heard about the thicker (HIGHTOP) TUFPADS that have 35% more material for only 29% additional cost, I realized that I would not only save on the initial parts cost, but also that I would not have to change the pads as often. The pads may even last me two years before I have to replace them. I'm sold on the TUFPADS, and all eight of my Wirtgen milling machines now have the HIGHTOPS on them."
- Larry Ware - President, Alpha Milling of Denver, Colorado

"We have used TUFPADS® for several years. TUFPADS® wear better than the old rubber pads. Traction is just as good as rubber for our type of application. Recycling BLS Enterprises TUFPADS® is another plus. The recycled pads save us money and that's the bottom line."
- Brian Hansen, Vice President-Operations, Dustrol, Inc., Towanda, Kansas, USA

"The plastic material wears like it is being sanded down, where the old rubber-covered pads would chunk and shred off. We are looking forward to several maintenance-free seasons with our new TUFPADS® track pads."
- Kinsey Culp, Culp Paving, Dellslow, West Virginia, USA

"We put a set of these TUFPADS® track pads on the front of our machine and they eliminated the slippage. We are very satisfied with the product."
- Jim Davidsmeyer, Asphalt Stone Company, Jacksonville, Illinois, USA (previously used steel tracks only)

"After we recycled 36 miles of pavement and milled about 100,000 square yards we're completely satisfied. Our original equipment pads were totally gone after 70 miles of recycling and yours look new."
- Ed Kearney, Chief Engineer, Gorman Brothers, Albany, New York, USA (previously used rubber pads)

"My shop people have been telling me that since we started installing the polyurethane TUFPADS® track pads on our three CMI PR-1050 milling machines, we have been experiencing zero maintenance on the tracks of those machines. We originally had rubber pads on those machines, and we quickly found that the 'chunking out' of the rubber pads produced a lot of problems. The installation of TUFPADS® corrected these problems and allowed us to produce high-quality, defect-free, cold in-place recycled pavement. We find that we are now able to use our machines in a much more efficient manner, and the amount of down time to replace disintegrating track pads is approaching zero as we progressively replace the old rubber pads with the TUFPADS® track pads. I would highly recommend the use of TUFPADS® on the tracks of asphalt milling machines, especially those used with cold recycling trains."
- Mr. Ed Kearney, Chief Engineer, Gorman Bros., Inc. , Albany, New York, May 3, 2001

"The rubber was not the product this polyurethane is. The rubber wasn't bonded as well to the metal cleats. Our milling machine would throw the rubber off. As far as I can remember in five years we've never had a polyurethane pad become unbonded."
- Bob Burnett, Manatts Inc., Newton, Iowa, USA

Excavators

"With TUFPADS® I can now bring my excavator into residential areas, over pavement, sidewalks, and grass without causing damage to any surfaces."
- Renny Smith, Bullseye Tree Service, Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA (Using Link Belt 2650 excavator)

Cat 330 Excavator
A contractor in Florida reported that he used TUFPADS® track pads on his CAT 330 excavator for 18 months, 6 days per week, working on a bridge deck repair job, and the TUFPADS® showed only 20% urethane wear.

Kobelco SK120 Excavator
A contractor in Green Bay, Wisconsin had a sewer pipe replacement project under the city streets. He leased a Kobelco SK120 with TUFPADS® track pads installed and a CAT 312 with continuous rubber tracks. At the end of the summer he liked the Kobelco with TUFPADS® so much he purchased the machine and sent the continuous rubber track machine back. He said the TUFPADS® did not slip off as the continuous rubber track did and TUFPADS® provided the protection and traction he needed.

Pavers

"We averaged 300 hours on standard rubber pads for our Mauldin 1750 paver in 1993. We replaced the rubber pads with your TUFPADS® in 1994, and now (1996) have more than 1500 hours on them with 85% of the urethane remaining. We have experienced no noticeable difference in ride or traction. We have ordered a new Gilcrest paver, and will install your TUFPADS® as soon as it arrives."
- David Strassman, D.R.S. Ltd., Madison, Wisconsin, USA

"Traction on both the airport and highway projects was definitely increased over the use of steel track pads. Plus, we didn't have to worry about marking up the surface."
- Ron Zuege, James Cape & Sons Company, Racine, Wisconsin, USA (using Guntert & Zimmerman S1500, S1000 and CMI 350 concrete pavers)

Guntert & Zimmerman S1500 & S1000 and CMI350 Pavers - A contractor in Racine, Wisconsin reported great success while using TUFPADS® track pads to complete a 3-year, $31 million runway and taxiway project at the Kansas City, Missouri airport. They also used TUFPADS® track pads while reconstructing the sections of Interstate Highway I-71 in Arkansas. To get to the actual job sites, the big G & Z paver was able to cross over a total of 8500 feet of bridges. To achieve the same thing without TUFPADS® track pads would have required that, at each bridge, the paver be broken down into sections and transported over the bridges on two separate trucks because of weight considerations. A costly and time consuming endeavor!

Concrete Paving Application
"Walking the paver across newly hardened concrete with TUFPADS® is saving us a lot of time and money, because TUFPADS® never leave a mark. The pads are easy to install, and we find that there is much less vibration when we are walking the machine over long distances. TUFPADS® track pads make life easier for us, and they make it easier on the machine, which saves us a lot in labor costs and helps us to get more good quality work out of our expensive machines. BLS is always very careful to check everything thoroughly, so that when they arrive, the TUFPADS® always fit perfectly."
- Mr. Charlie Isaacs, Shop Foreman, The Harper Company, Hebron, Kentucky, December, 2000

Dozers

"Installing polyurethane TUFPADS® track pads on our two new John Deere JD450H dozers really did the trick. Now we can walk this dozer all over the new houses' yards – over curbs, sidewalks and driveways, with no fear of causing damage to the finished surfaces. We used to complete two or three housing sites per day, but now we are doing four or five a day, and saving a lot of time and money. Traction using the TUFPADS® track pads is just fine."
- Brad Vancina, Dozer Operator, Dresden Excavating Co., Frankfort, Illinois, December, 2000

Miscellaneous

"TUFPADS® give us great versatility because they allow us to run our machines across various types of surfaces such as cement, asphalt, dirt or gravel or even inside buildings. TUFPADS® have extraordinarily long lives. We have run over sharp rocks all day long, twisting and turning, then brought the machine back and cleaned it up and the TUFPADS® looked like new. We are extremely confident in using TUFPADS® on any machine we build, even the ones we export to many countries worldwide."
- Kevin McClintock, Scarab Manufacturing Company, White Deer, Texas, U.S.A

Trenching

"In 1995 and 1996 my company, Cascade Cable Constructors, purchased over 750 TUFPADS® track pads from my local dealer, Western Power and Equipment, for use on our fleet of thirteen Case 475 track cable layers. My company is involved principally in the installation of optical fiber cable alongside road surfaces that we do not wish to damage with steel tracks. I have to say that I believe that the TUFPADS® track pads outwear any other product that we have ever tried that is available on the market. Since our original purchase, over six years ago, we have not had to replace one track pad due to wear or defect. We have never experienced a situation where the polyurethane would debond or strip off the steel grouser shoe. I would estimate that even after six years we still have about 70% of the polyurethane material left on the pads. I am extremely satisfied with the performance that I have received from the TUFPADS® product, and when it eventually comes time to replace the track pads, I will certainly be looking to invest in more of this fine product."
- Cliff Tvedten, Owner, Cascade Cable Constructors, Inc., Spokane, Washington, June 1, 2001

TRENCOR 860 and 1260 Trenchers
A Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania contractor purchased TUFPADS® track pads for his Trencor 860 trencher in 1994 and was so pleased he purchased another set for his Trencor 1260 trencher in 1996.
